
festival of asian music summer 2005
Following the success of ‘The Little Chilli’ festival in July 2004,
the Asian Music Circuit is pleased to present this unique festival in
the Summer of 2005 ‘The Little Chilli’ festival is the first of its kind
devoted to celebrating the rich diversity of Asian music This year ‘The
Little Chilli’ includes magical rhythms from an all-female South Indian
group known as ‘Rhythms of Shakti’, enchanting performances of the
Japanese masked dance form Kagura, exhilarating and blues-like music
of the Hua family shawm band from China, as well as the rare chance
to see Dhalang Rasinah – the maestro of Indramayu mask dance from
West Java accompanied by gamelan. ‘The Little Chilli’ also features
the legendary ghazal singer from Pakistan – Ustad Ghulam Ali, and
the return of the critically acclaimed Nizami Brothers who perform
exciting and rhythmic qawwali with their brothers from Pakistan.
