Our Aims

The aim of the AMC's educational work is to encourage both the young and the old to learn about and appreciate Asian music. It is the AMC's belief that by raising the profile of Asian music in formal education, we are enriching the educational experience of British children, and helping to engender a greater respect between individuals and communities at a local and a global level. Our education programme is intended to generate new avenues through which the beauty and diversity of Asian music can be discovered and enjoyed by everyone.

Our Activities

AMC runs a diverse and dynamic education programme throughout the year.

At our new multi-media Asian Music Centre, we have recitals, workshops and listening sessions for the general public, as well as workshops specially designed for schools and community groups.

Through our extensive outreach programme, we bring top quality musicians and artists to schools, colleges, universities & community and arts centres around the country. Our touring artists also often give workshops and seminars.

We also run a highly successful Sounds of Asia Summer School, now in its 10 th year. Over 100 participants gather from all over Europe to learn intensively with the masters of Indian, Chinese, and Japanese music.

What regions do we cover?
We cover the whole region of Asia- East, Central, South, South East, and West Asia. We have activities relating to India, China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tibet, and many others.

What kind of activities do we offer?
Our events involve singing, drumming, playing instruments, dancing, puppetry, arts and crafts, and other art forms.

Who can participate?
Everyone! Events at the AMC Centre are open to the public and at a very low cost. People of all ages and abilities can enjoy our unique events. We also run workshops for school and community groups in London and throughout the UK.
