Uday Bhawalkar

The Asian Music Circuit is delighted to welcome Pandit Uday Bhawalkar for a baithak style intimate concert in music room at The Museum of Asian Music.  He will be performing acoustically the wonderful Raga Gavati which is rarely heard in the Dhrupad style focusing on alap.

Dhrupad is one of the oldest forms of North Indian classical music and Pt. Uday has developed a personal style deeply embedded in raga ras and bhav bringing a creative touch within the precise intonation and pronunciation of the Dhrupad style.  Uday has spent over 12 years studying and living in the traditonal guru-shishya -parampara with Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar (Vocal) and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar (Rudra-Veena), the towering pillars of the Dhrupad dagarbani tradition.  Uday has an engaging style and is able to reach out and communicate with audiences of all backgrounds.  He has recieved prestigious awards including the Kumar Samman given by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh (2001) and the Raza Foundation Award (2007) given by S.H. Raza the famous painter.  The most important thing for Uday is to gain a state of 'Sahaj', to be equally at ease at concerts large or small or at home with his students.

Join us for this exceptional concert at the Museum of Asian Music.
